Description:
- large evergreen tree, conifer
- etymology: Cedrus is the Latin name; deodara from the name in India
- leaves needle-like, 1”-2” long, in star-like clusters on short shoots (or occasionally single on long shoots)
- cones erect
- wood rot-resistant, used to build the famous houseboats of Srinagar, Kashmir; wood aromatic, used to make incense
- 1 of just 3 species of true cedars (Cedrus)
