Description:
- deciduous shrub
- etymology: Aronia from Greek name aria for Sorbus aria; arbutifolia = arbutus-leaved
- leaves simple, toothed (serrate), alternate; with slender glands on midvein on upper surface
- flowers small, white, in compound clusters; in April/May
- fruits bright red, until midwinter; astringent; used in jams, juice etc.; rich in antioxidant anthocyanins
- habitat wet woods, swamps
