  • etymology: Chamaecyparis from Greek chamai for low-growing and kuparissos for cypress; pisifera = pea-bearing (the small cones); ‘Filifera’ = narrow, threadlike (leaves)
  • leaves scale-like; foliage thread-like (“filifera”), in lacy sprays
  • cones small, with peltate scales
  • the species is native to Japan
