Description:
- large evergreen tree, conifer
- etymology: Picea from pix = pitch (sticky resin); abies = genus name for fir (Abies)
- short needle-like leaves; ½’ to 1” long; 4-sided and sharp-pointed (as in other spruces)
- cones large, 4”–6”
- branchlets and twigs hang downward distinctively (pendulous)
- popular ornamental tree
