- deciduous shrub
- etymology: Hydrangea from Greek hydor for water, and aggos for a jar; quercifolia = oak-leaved
- leaves opposite; oak-like in shape, hence the common and scientific names
- flowers white, in large showy panicles (branching clusters)
- prefers partial shade
- common ornamental
