- specific epithet occasionally mis-spelled “mugho”; older scientific name (synonym) Pinus montana
- also known as Swiss mountain pine
- needles in 2’s; ca 1”-3” long
- cones ca 1”-2” long
- ornamental species; with a number of subspecies, short shrubs or tall trees (to ca 66’ tall)
- native range Central Europe mountains (Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians etc); mostly ca 3,000’-7,000’ altitude
