Description:
  • deciduous shrub
  • etymology: Euonymus = the Latin name; alata = winged (the stems)
  • leaves opposite, turn bright-red in autumn
  • flowers small, greenish, not showy
  • stems with 2-4 distinctive corky “wings”
  • fruit purplish, with an orange aril
  • popular ornamental; invasive in woodlands of eastern North America

*Non-native species (not native to Delaware). Listed as Invasive in Delaware
