Description:
- large evergreen shrub; dense
- etymology: Viburnum from the Latin name for V. lantana; rhytidophyllum = with wrinkled leaves
- family now Adoxaceae; until recently, placed in Caprifoliaceae (honeysuckle family)
- leaves opposite, pale-hairy beneath, 4”-7” long
- flowers small, white; in showy clusters (cymes) to 7” across
- fruits small, red turning black, drupes (stone fruits); in clusters
