Description:
  • large evergreen shrub; dense
  • etymology: Viburnum from the Latin name for V. lantana; rhytidophyllum = with wrinkled leaves
  • family now Adoxaceae; until recently, placed in Caprifoliaceae (honeysuckle family)
  • leaves opposite, pale-hairy beneath, 4”-7” long
  • flowers small, white; in showy clusters (cymes) to 7” across
  • fruits small, red turning black, drupes (stone fruits); in clusters
