- etymology: Euonymus = the Latin name; fortunei for Robert Fortune (1812-1880) who collected in China and introduced tea to India
- leaves opposite
- flowers small, greenish, not showy
- fruits whitish with bright orange aril; attractive in autumn
- popular ornamental, occasionally escapes to natural areas in New Castle County, Delaware
