Description:
  • deciduous shrub
  • etymology: Forsythia after William Forsyth (1737-1804) Swedish gardener, and superintendant of Kensington Palace Royal Gardens; intermedia = intermediate between parents of this hybrid (purportedly F. suspensa and F. viridissima)
  • leaves opposite
  • flowers yellow, in spring; one of earliest flowering shrubs
  • pith chambered between the nodes, and solid at the nodes
  • branches arch
  • very popular ornamental
